Shibori Dye Workshop Kit
Shibori Dye Workshop Kit
This is the Shibori Dye Workshop Kit. It reserves your materials that will be used to dye fabric items in an indigo dye bath at camp abbydid.
Indigo is magical and wonderful - items emerge bright, electric green when they leaves the dye bath, but then oxygen hits them and they change right before your eyes, becoming the most rich, intense blue. I'll be showing you lots of shibori methods of dying, which are Japanese binding methods similar to tie dye. You can even try your hand at stitched shibori, where gathered running stitches create wild designs.
What this kit: soda ash bath, indigo dye bath, rubber bands, sinew, clamps, blanks for clamping, needle and thread, gloves, and general dying tools and materials.
What is NOT included: items you will be dying. Bring your own COTTON items (or bamboo, linen, or rayon). 100% natural plant fibers work best, but if there must be a mix make it at least 60%. Silk works, too, but will be more likely to result in a pastel blue instead of an intense indigo.
I will have silk scarves, a silk pillowcase, and stretch cotton yardage available from the camp abbydid canteen.
